Favorite Photos (36) (View
Photos) November 13-28, 2010 These are my favorite shots from this amazing trip. They also represent a fairly good cross section of the South Island areas we visited. Since I have never traveled outside the Christchurch area I decided to do it right and booked it through an NZ based company - Active New Zealand. For me the Manuka Tour itinerary offered excellent opportunities for both hiking and photography and this country is a paradise for both. If it were left to me I would probably still be there shooting. Hope you enjoy these shots as much as I enjoyed being there to take them. |

Panoramic Vistas (11) (View
Photos) Everywhere I shot there was a real tendency to include more in the shot than I could frame in one composition, hence these panoramas. Rather than mix these in with my other shots I thought it would be easier to keep them separated. |

From Region to Region (40) (View
Photos) This is a chronological sequence of shots taken in all the regions we visited during our 15 day vist (West Coast, Otago, Fiordlands, Canterbury). Every day we hiked through miles and miles of amazing scenery. My biggest challenge has been to sort these images down to a "definitive" set. Photos from the overnight cruise on Milford Sound are included here as well. |

Fiordlands Hollyford Track (38) (View
Photos) The Hollyford Track (Hike) is located in the Fiordlands National Park and follows the Hollyford River into rain forests and pristine wilderness down to Martins Bay on the Tasman Sea. Day 1 is a hike along the river to Pyke River Lodge, Day 2 is a hike to Lake Alabaster and a jet boat ride to Lake McKerrow and Martins Bay Lodge. Day 3 is hiking on the beach and then flying to Milford Sound for an overnight cruise on the sound. |

Photos) These are some group shots taken along the way. Our main tour group with Active New Zealand had a total of 11 with two guides (Ben and Heather). Of these 11, 8 did the Milford Track and 3 (including me) did the Hollyford Track. The three of us on Hollyford were joined by a family of five from Australia. |

Point Lobos Waves, Pfeiffer
Beach Arch & Sunset (View
Photos) November, 2010 Any day on the Big Sur coast is a wonderful day and this was no exception. In the morning Bryan and I headed for Point Lobos and hiked along the south shore. The wave action was spectacular and so there were a lot of stops while we hiked. Later that day at Pfeiffer Beach I captured the sun's rays shooting through the Pfeiffer Arch. |

Grape Vines and Indian Rhubarb

Photos) October, 2010 This is a selection of fall color shots taken in October at various locations. Most of the grape vine shots were at several Amador County vineyards but a couple are from Green Valley in Solano County. The Indian Rhubarb shots are from the American River silver fork. |

2010 Fall Color, Mono Lake,
Lone Pine Arch

Photos) October 7-11, 2010 The eastern sierra - one of my very favorite place in the world. Fall colors were spotty but definitely there if you looked. I also visited Mono Lake for 4 shooting sessions and I spent a day and a half in Lone Pine visiting the Alabama Hills. The visited the well-known Lone Pine arch for 3 sessions - sunset, full night, and sunrise. |

Reno Hot Air Balloon Races

Photos) September 11, 2010 Reno hosts this event every September so I thought it was time I checked it out. I organized this as a photography outing for fellow Sierra Club photographers. We all went up the night before so we could be ready for a very early get-up. It started at 5 and was done by 8. Awesome experience! |

Bishop, CA Hikes

Photos) August 12 - 16, 2010 These photos were taken while hiking in the eastern sierra mostly in areas near Bishop - South Lake, Sabrina, Big Pines Lakes, and Virginia Lakes north of Lee Vining. We also visited the Panum Crater near Mono Lake for a short hike. Not many clouds this time around but stellar scenery nonetheless. |

Hawaii - The Big Island and
Kauai

Photos) July 7 - 17, 2010 I spent 5 days on Kauai in a photography workshop given by Don Smith and Gary Hart whose workshops I have attended before. Even with high expectations Kauai just blew me away. Wonderful weather (lucky), great clouds for the sunset and sunrises. I did the big island on my own for 5 days, exploring the volcanic area on the east side. Again, I was not disappointed - it is a whole other kind of beauty and shouldn't be missed. |

Sunset Photo Shoot at Deer
Creek Hills

Photos) June 24, 2010 These shots were taken during a short notice trip to the Deer Creek Hills, which is a part of the Sacramento Valley Conservancy. Six of us from the Sierra Club Photo Section went with hopes for a nice sunset and enough visibility to shoot the almost full moon. We weren't disappointed. |

Lake Tahoe, Oregon, and
Washington Trip

Photos) June 1 - 13, 2010 These shots were taken during a road trip to Washington for a visit with my daughters and grandkids. Unlike previous visits I decided to see as much new territory as possible as well as revisit some old favorite spots. I started at Lake Tahoe with a sunrise visit to Emerald Bay, then the back roads through central Oregon and Washington. Return home via the Olympic Peninsula and the Oregon coast. |

Yosemite in Spring 2010

Photos) April 26-29, 2010 This was my annual spring photography trip to Yosemite. It was a wonderful mix of weather including stormy rain clouds, snow showers, and blue sky. With all the water in the streams I found that I spent most of my time at places like Tamarack Creek and Bridalveil Falls. |

Garrapata SP Hike With Bryan

Photos) March 27, 2010 Bryan and I decided to check out the trails at Garrapata State Park. The Rocky Ridge and Soberanes Canyon trails offered a 7 mile loop with 1845' of climb. We had great views of the coast, perfect weather, and great wildflowers along the way. |

Grand Canyon and Sedona Trip

Photos) March 12-17, 2010 These are my favorite shots taken during a trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, AZ. Believe it or not, this was my first visit to both places, and it certainly won't be my last. I purposely timed this trip to be in the Grand Canyon while a cold front and snow were in the forecast. I was NOT disappointed! |

Winter Scenes at Donner Pass

Photos) February 15-16, 2010 These are some shots taken while I was snow shoeing in the Donner Pass area. On the first day I started at Clair Tappaan Lodge and worked back to a hill above Angela Lake. The next day was spent along the ridges overlooking old Donner Pass. Lots of great old gnarly Junipers growing in the rock. |

Yosemite in Winter

Photos) January 29-31, 2010 Paul, Bruce, Moody, Rich and I headed to Yosemite for snow shoeing and winter photography. When we headed for Dewey Point on Saturday morning we had light snow showers and clearing storm conditions in the valley which made for wonderful photo opportunities. |

Loon Lake Snow Shoe Trip

Photos) January 26-28, 2010 Rich, Paul and I were lucky enough to get short notice reservations at the Loon Lake Chalet. We were also very lucky in that the weather cleared just in time for us to get up there and have a great two days of snow shoeing in the area. |
