(View
Photos) December 3 - 15, 2009 This was an 11-day trip with Wanda McKown to visit my brother and his wife in Cabo San Lucas. We thought it would be great fun to get away from the NoCal December weather and do some snorkeling, camping on the beach, tennis, well, you get the idea. |

I visited five national parks along the way (Great Basin, Arches, Canyonlands, Zion, and Death Valley), Dead Horse Point SP, Monument Valley, Upper Antelope Canyon, and Valley of Fire SP. It was my first experience in this area and I have to say I am hooked! Graham did a great job showing six of us around one of his favorite places on earth. Driving the playa was an awesome experience (see the video). |

Yosemite Valley Photography
Workshop (View
Photos)
(View
Slideshow) May 5-9, 2009 This was a workshop in Yosemite Valley led by Gary Hart and assisted by Don Smith. both highly experienced professional landscape photographers. This was my first time in a workshop of this caliber and I must say that I think the experience will make a huge difference in my future work. I hope you like these shots - I am especially pleased with the moonbow shot and the dogwood composition. |

California Coast Trip (View
Photos)
(View
Slideshow) April 19-21, 2009 My first stop on this trip was for sunset shooting at Point Lobos State Reserve where I had photographed many time before. The next day I started with sunrise on the Sur coast and a little later at Garrapata Beach. Late morning brought me to Rocky Point. The evening of my second day brought me to the Montana De Oro State Beach. This was my first trip here but I was familiar with photography others had done here and I was certainly not disappointed. The rocky coast line, easy access, and a great sunset made for a wonderful evening. The third day of my central coast trip was spent in the sand. Unfortunately this time of year access is restricted to a large percentage of the dunes due to Snowy Plover breeding. I was able to shoot some in Guadalupe (Nipomo Dunes) and several area on Vandenberg AFB (nice to be retired AF). |

Last Snow Shoe Hike of the
Season (View
Photos) April 11, 2009 This was a show shoe hike into the Granite Chief Wilderness between the Squaw and Alpine Meadow ski areas. Alas, due to my GPS acting up, we didn't make it to the 5-Lakes area as we originally intended; nevertheless, it was a fun day in the snow. |

Flowers Shot with a Macro Lens (View
Photos) April 7 - 13, 2009 On rainy spring days I get the urge to go shoot flowers still wet with rain drops. Most of these shots are just targets of opportunity in my backyard but nothing special (except the day lily I think). Several were also shot in Gates Canyon. |

Wild Flowers in Gates Canyon (View
Photos) April 6 - 13, 2009 These shots are from several trips up Gate Canyon Road which is in the Blue Ridge just west of Vacaville. This area is mostly private property but there are areas of nice wild flowers accessible to the public if you do a little scouting. |

Hiking the Steep Ravine Trail
at Mt. Tam (View
Photos) March 27, 2009 This was a hike from Stinson Beach up the Steep Ravine train on Mt. Tam's west side to the Pan Toll Station, then back down on the Mac Davis trail. Beautiful day with nice filtered sun light much of the way. A little too early for decent wild flowers however. |

Monterey - Point Lobos and
Carmel Mission (View
Photos) March 20 - 21, 2009 These photos were taken while I accompanied Ricki and her photography class on a field trip to Point Lobos State Reserve and the Carmel Mission. Point Lobos was great, as always, and I was pleasantly surprised at all the photo ops at the Carmel Mission. |

Cabo San Lucas Trip - Walks on
Misiones Beach (View
Photos) February 21 - 27, 2009 During our stay at Misiones I went on several walks in the morning along the rock and beach areas at Misiones and toward Medano Beach in Cabo proper. The rocky areas here have very interesting formations and colors and include cactus right down to the water line. |

Santos & San Jose Art Walk (View
Photos) February 21 - 27, 2009 The first two shots were taken at the Hotel California (from the Eagles album) in Todos Santos. The rest of the shots were taken at night in downtown San Jose during their weekly Art Walk through various galleries and studios. The diversity of colors, texture and form was everywhere I looked - great fun!!! |

Cabo San Lucas Trip - Sunset
Cruise (View
Photos) February 21 - 27, 2009 After a successful fishing trip we delivered the bulk of our catch to a local restaurant to be prepared served that evening for us and a large group of Randy's local area friends. Before dinner we all went out on a sunset cruise around the tip of Cabo - met lots of interesting people, drank some tequila, and shot some great sunset photos. |

Cabo San Lucas Trip - Playa Los
Cerritos Beach (View
Photos) February 21 - 27, 2009 There is an area of beaches on the pacific side of Baja about 25 miles north of Cabo San Lucas along Highway 1 that are just spectacular. We went to Playa Los Cerritos beach and had it to ourselves. I was torn between boogie boarding (first time for me) and photographing some great waves. |

Cabo San Lucas Trip - Cerritos
Rock and Sand Patterns (View
Photos) February 21 - 27, 2009 Besides the boogie boarding and great waves at Cerritos I was intrigued with patterns being created in the sand by the waves. The combination of gold and black sand, and various rocks, changed each time a new wave swept the beach and created some really interesting (to me anyway) abstract patterns. |

(View map
of hike) February 7, 2009 This was a hike from the Sno-Park at Boreal back to the area behind Boreal Ridge. We went back to a peak overlooking Lake Angela with some great Junipers. Along the way a Snowshoe Hare was kind enough to stop just long enough for me to snap a close-up. |

Drake's Estero Hike (Point
Reyes) (View
Photos) (View map
of hike) January 17, 2009 None of us had hiked out to Drake's Estuary before and we weren't disappointed. Lots of interesting scenes along the way, especially the patterns created in the estuary by the tides. Views from Drake's Head were stunning. |

|
Yolo Bypass Wetlands Wilderness (View
Photos) January 10, 2009 We went out to scout this area in preparation for a Sierra Club photo section outing. Suzanna De Palma, who lives in the area and is a member of the outings committee, was kind enough to give me a tour of the area. |

Hope Valley Snowshoe Hike (View
Photos)
(View map
of hike) January 3, 2009 Moody, Gina and I decided to explore a new area this time. We stopped in the Hope Valley where there were a number of cross county skiers. The hike itself was relatively short but the vistas and photo opportunities were really stunning. I loved the groves of Aspen we encounters along the way. |
